Mission
Statement:
Girl Scouting builds
girls of courage,
confidence, and
character, who
make the world a
better place.
What Is Girl
Scouting?
According to www.
girlscouts.org, most
girls join a local
troop or group for
fun and friendship,
but they also find out
about building
character and self-
esteem and serving
their communities—
the core qualities of
Girl Scouting.
In Girl Scouts, girls
find a safe place to
grow and share new
experiences, learn
to relate to others,
develop values, and
contribute to society.
When you join Girl Scouting, we'll help you find a troop that meets your needs and
schedule. Girl Scouting is broken down into the following levels:
- Daisy Girl Scouts (Ages 5-6 or Grade K) Daisy Girl Scouts meet in small
groups with two or more leaders to learn about the world around them. They
take local trips, learn about science and nature, make crafts and explore their
community. Daisy Girl Scouts earn learning petals and receive participation
patches. The Indian Valley Service Unit has Daisy Girl Scout troops in both
Harleysville and Souderton/Telford.
- Brownie Girl Scouts (Ages 6-8 or Grades 1-3) Brownie Girl Scouts meet in
troops and earn Try Its badges by trying new things. Brownie Girl Scouts
further explore their community by participating in service projects, camping,
and selling Girl Scout cookies. Troops have at least two leaders and usually
meet weekly or bi-weekly. Brownie Girl Scout troops meet in Souderton,
Telford, and Harleysville.
- Junior Girl Scouts (Ages 8-11 or Grades 4-6) Junior Girl Scouts further their
horizons by taking charge of their troop. Girls are empowered with leadership
training and more complex experiences. Junior Girl Scouts are eligible to earn
specific proficiency badges, as well as the Junior Girl Scout Bronze Award.
Troops usually use the patrol structure and meet with two leaders on a weekly
or bi-weekly basis. The Indian Valley Service has Junior Girl Scout troops
meeting in Harleysville, Souderton, and Telford.
- Girl Scouts 11-17 For Older Girl Scouts, the opportunities are almost
limitless. From traveling abroad to fully embracing their leadership skills, the
program for Older Girl Scouts is designed to fit the needs and busy schedules
of today's teenager. Older Girl Scouts have the opportunity to work on either
Interest Project Patches or Studio 2B charms and can earn recognitions such
as the Girl Scout Silver Award or the Girl Scout Gold Award, the highest and
most esteemed honor a Girl Scout can receive. Older Girl Scouts serve as
role models for younger girls, while creating lifelong memories and valuable
experiences within their troops. Each Older Girl Scout troop has at least two
leader/mentors and meeting schedules vary by troop. There are currently five
Older Girl Scout troops in the Souderton School District, meeting in both
Harleysville and Souderton/Telford.
